WHY WOULD SOMEONE WEAR CHEESE ON THEIR HEAD?

The Significance of The Cheesehead

After watching this video I realized the importance of the cheesehead to Packer nation. To the surprise of many, the cheesehead actually originated from a brewers fan in 1987. The cheesehead was made by a man named Ralph Bruno. Shortly after this first foam head was made for a brewers game, they were in mass production for the Packers 1987 football season. A great example of the importance of the cheesehead for packer nation is to go to a packer game. At a Packer game, everywhere you look, you will see people wearing cheeseheads. During a Packer game you can buy these cheeseheads in countless shapes and sizes at stores or booths in the stadium. The cheesehead is not only the same color as the packers uniform, but it also symbolizes the type of people we are and what our state is about. We are proud of our culture and by wearing the cheesehead we embrace our agriculture and style of living in Wisconsin. This video from youtube points out what being a cheesehead is all about. During the video they singers say "I'm a cheeshead baby, the pride of Wisconsin." By saying this during the song, it supports the fact that packer fans are proud of who they are, and are not afraid to show it. The cheesehead is a symbol for Packer fans and the entire state of Wisconsin; like the Phantom is a symbol for West De Pere. Its who we are.

  1. I agree with this because all sports teams have an image to them and something that they can be recognized by. If a team gets a bad image they might be looked at poorly but with the packers they have the cheesehead and people think it is hilarious. West De Pere has the phantom as well which is how we are recognized when we travel to away games. We put the logo on everything from clothes to bumper stickers. Its the symbol of West De Pere and everyone should be proud of that.

  2. I think that the idea of fans wearing cheese on their heads is rediculous. The Packers are a storied franchise with a rich history and wearing this outrageous piece of cheese on heads of fans takes away from the quality of the franchise. The Packers could think of a better symbol to represent the team than a piece of cheese. The idea of wearing cheese on fans' heads is pointless and really has nothing to do with the Packers.

  3. I agree with will the cheesehead is not bad at all it represents who the people from wisconsin are. just like the West De Pere too the running phantom is all over the city or the orange w is all over too. Every sports team has a symbol and ours is the cheesehead and it is great.

  4. I believe that packer fans are the craziest fans of any sports team! Lambeau is the only place where you coud see a 25 year old body painted and a 65 year old body painted and not think it is weird at all!! The cheesehead is a great example! We might look weird wearing it but we don't care becasue we are true fans! We don't jump from team to team when ours is not doing good! And we are not dumb enough to wear an ugly hat with horns coming out of it like the vikings! One they look weird, so its not funny! Two if they have a rough season they blame it on everyone else! Packer Backer for life!
